Homework is important. It is an extension of the learning that takes place in school. Homework can provide practice and drill that reinforces classroom learning and can provide opportunities for independent study, research, and creative thinking. Parents can help their children by arranging a quiet, comfortable place for them to work and by seeing that assignments are completed. Due to the emphasis on reading at Girard Elementary School and in order to meet the requirements of the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, students are expected to read from their AR books every night. Students who repeatedly fail to complete homework may be assigned to afternoon detention.
